A Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) allows eligible travelers to enter and travel freely within the 29 countries of the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. It is designed for leisure tourism, visiting relatives or friends, business meetings, and short-stay educational or cultural events. It does not permit employment in the Schengen Area.

Under Article 5 of the Schengen Visa Code:
• If your visit involves only one country, you must apply to that country’s consular mission.
• If visiting multiple countries, you must apply to the country that constitutes your main destination in terms of the length or purpose of stay.
• If no main destination can be determined (e.g. equal duration in multiple states), you must apply through the country whose external border you will cross first. You cannot choose an embassy based on convenience or perceived ease.
Standard requirements include a current passport valid for at least 3 months after departure, two biometric photos, a duly completed Schengen application form, travel medical insurance with €30,000 coverage, round-trip flight itineraries, confirmed accommodation, bank statements proving financial solvency, and proof of employment, business ownership, or studies in Sri Lanka. Documentation criteria vary by consular mission, and customers are guided to the official consular source for their specific submission.
You can apply up to 6 months before your intended departure date (up to 9 months for seafarers), and no later than 15 calendar days before travel. Because appointment availability at visa application centres in Colombo can fluctuate during peak travel seasons, NEXORA recommends beginning your dossier preparation at least 8 to 12 weeks prior to your targeted departure date.
